  5. Hello, good evening and welcome to more demo reviews from DocM.
  6. No, you haven't booted up the wrong file, It IS me, Doc.M. I 
  7. just thought I'd be polite for a change. Well I did try so ....

  10.          HELLO 'DER MA MAN GIVE ME FIVE! YEAH RIDE ON!
  11. First things first, the best news must be that THE 'LLAMA' has 
  12. turned his programs open to shareware.  Hail the 'LLAMA'.
  13.  
  14. Before I get down to business a BIG thanks goes to the following 
  15. PDL's:-
  16. Steve Delaney & Irene Lamb of FLOPPYSHOP. For the following 
  17. Demo's:   THE BIG DEMO, THE JUGGLER+ & THE MEGABANG.
  18.  
  19. Jake Bain of CALEDONIA. For THE ELECTRA DEMO.
  20.  
  21. I will start this review with a look at :- The Megabang Demo.
  22.  
  23. I was once told to get a hold of a demo called the Megabang Demo 
  24. as it was pure dead brilliant?
  25. Well if I remember who it was that told me this I will personally 
  26. choke him because all I can say about this demo is if you own a 
  27. company called Microdeal then this is a great advert for your add 
  28. on sound sampler, ie Replay 4.
  29. I think that the Lost Boys must have been well in with microdeal
  30. to do this demo, the screen( the only one )is an advert for 
  31. microdeal's Replay 4. The sound sample is ok, but as for the 
  32. super dooper scrolling and fantastic FX?  I'm still trying to 
  33. find them.
  34. If you want to buy an advert then this is the one for you! It 
  35. should not be classed as a demo crews demo. Be warned if it's a 
  36. demo you want then buy something else!

  38. I feel I cannot give this demo any marks at all.

  42. On the Juggler Demo you get the following demo's:-
  43. the '42 demo crew' - 'Demo 3_v2.Tex' - 'The Juggler demo'.
  44.  
  45. The 42-demo crew:-
  46. This demo has an ST PI1 screen backdrop and gives you an option 
  47. of a total of 2,  yes a whole 2,  tunes.
  48. The first tune being the Goldrunner theme and the second tune 
  49. being jupiter tune  (both of these get a little boring after  two 
  50. minutes, well ok, a big bit boring).
  51. Marking this demo out of 10 it gets 3.5.

  54. Demo3_V2.Tex:-
  55. Take a picture , add a rotating top central piece with two 
  56. central  side rotating 'Atari logo's' add 1 scroll text line 
  57. along the bottom of the screen, add eight tunes, mix them all 
  58. together and what do you get?
  59. Yes you've guessed it the TEX-V2_DEMO?
  60. The marks for this demo are a little better at 5 out of 10.

  62. The Juggler demo:-
  63. I first saw this demo on an Am...Amm.... Ammm... OK I first saw 
  64. this demo on an other computer(ha ha), this demo has been ported
  65. over(I think) onto the ST with very little effects lost.
  66. A must for every demo collector.
  67. Marks must be 8 out of 10 for the graffix.
  68. Overall you get two dodgy demo's + 1 Master demo so it's still
  69. a bargain even if just for the Juggler demo.

  71. THE BIG DEMO!

  73. This demo has 3 individual demo's plus THE LONGEST SCROLLER that 
  74. I have ever had the pleasure read!
  75. Lets start with the first demo:-
  76.  
  77. 1)...COLORRIGHT by  Tex
  78. This screen has very good effects, it has a bouncing raster bar, 
  79. with a 3d cube in the centre of the screen, so does the raster 
  80. bar go behind, in front of, or through the cube? Well, have a 
  81. look and decide for yourself.
  82. This demo must have a place in the ST'ers demo collection.

  84. 2)...SHADOW SCAPE(? That's what I call it!)
  85. A screen with a little colour on it. OK, a whole lot of colour
  86. on the STFM and even more if you have an STE.
  87. Good use of the ST/STE colour palette with a platform in the 
  88. centre has to be seen to be believed!
  89. A good screen to watch!

  91. 3)...This is a screen I call 'ARROWS' (and not an Indian in 
  92. sight).
  93. The only thing I can say about this demo is that if you want to 
  94. see a screen scrolling in all different directions then this is 
  95. the one for you, and thats just about all it does!

  97. Well here it is, the one I've  been waiting for, When I had my 
  98. Spectrum 128k, I saw this demo on local club members STs  and 
  99. decided it was a must when I got my ST.
  100.  
  101. THE BIG SCROLLER:-
  102. With a lot of music for the background (you will need it), the 
  103. music lasts 4.7 hours and the text scroller lasts for a whole 
  104. 2.5 miles, YES 2.5 MILES.
  105.  
  106. Can you imagine 2.5 miles of text AND NO BAD language anywhere.
  107. The way the scroller goes through the cave effect is great on 
  108. its own but the whole must be seen to be believed.
  109. As you probably notice I have a soft spot for this demo!
  110. (WHAT DOC.M's got a soft spot?- No way man!)

  112. A must for all ST DEMO collectors. All in 9 out of 10.

  116. The one from Jake:-
  117.  
  118. The Electra Demo:-( 1 meg memory needed.)
  119. Before I start this demo has foul language all the way through it 
  120. so I'm giving you warning NOW!
  121.  
  122. Do not be put off (as I was until I contacted Jake) with the 
  123. corrupt looking loading screen.  It  pretends  to be one  of  the 
  124. worst  coded  demos ever with the crew admiting they  ripped  the 
  125. code straight from a rivals demo, after you press the spacebar 
  126. the ST bombs. Just press the reset button and you get one of the 
  127. biggest, if not THE BIGGEST, reset demo's ever seen! If you know 
  128. better then let me know and I will give it a going over.

  130. This demo starts with a great intro scroller with fab fonts!
  131. This is the first demo from the swedish demo crew ELECTRA!
  132. There are eight planets for you to visit:-
  133.  
  134. Planet #1:-(Sprites)
  135. Great big colourful sprites, a starfield (moving stars) backdrop, 
  136. the music is good but starts to repeat to soon!
  137.  
  138. Planet #2:-(Bitbender)
  139. This demo has an original scroller, no swearing but the font(?), 
  140. the music and backdrop got a little boooooooorrrriiinngg(yawn).
  141.  
  142. Planet #3:-(Electraballs)
  143. 3d objects and the music has been done before! the shapes some of 
  144. them old and some of them new, the less said about this demo the 
  145. better so onto the next planet!

  147. Planet #4:-(Greeting screen)
  148. Some great fontz with very interesting FX, scroll-line sometimes 
  149. hard to read but as far as I could tell no bad language on this 
  150. planet!

  152. Planet #5:-(The Globe)
  153. A 3D star ball with golden fontz, I like the rotating globe on 
  154. the scrolling 3D cube field, must be seen to be believed.

  156. Planet #6:-(Doc Demo)
  157. Great big ball sprites, music is not to bad with lots of things 
  158. to do, try pressing the F1 to F10 keys or the +- keys or just 
  159. watch the nice ball snake move fab?
  160.  
  161. Planet #7:-(Megadist)
  162. If you like to sit and watch a picture that looks as if it is in
  163. a wave pool then this is the one for you, but I don't think that 
  164. this demo belongs on this disk (or should I say I would not have 
  165. put it on this demo) as this screen is a big NO-NO.

  167. Planet #8:-(The Tube)(No, not me!)
  168. Fab Fontz for the Big intro, but the text that rolls round the 
  169. tube just goes that little bit to fast to read, and as for a 
  170. hidden screen I got P***** off trying to work out how to get it 
  171. going, bahh(I wonder if there is a hidden screen)if you have seen 
  172. it please let me know just what it's about please (pretty pretty 
  173. please).

  175. Out of 10 I would give this demo 8 minus 1 for the bad language 
  176. so a total of 7.

  191. know who the 'LLAMA' is he is. He's the one and only JEFF MINTER,

  193. You can get Llamatron from any PDL and do support him by  sending 
  194. your fiver if you play it a lot.
